About GrowthFactor
GrowthFactor is on a mission to connect communities with physical access to the goods and services they need. We help retail businesses find the right property for their next location, with the ultimate goal of creating access in underserved areas that need them most.
Our platform combines geospatial analytics with AI agents that work alongside customers to streamline their site selection workflows. We pull together data from many sources, (foot traffic, vehicle traffic, demographics, retail business locations, and more), to give our customers comprehensive insights for making informed decisions. The GrowthFactor platform is the fastest solution on the market today, allowing our customers to move far faster than their competition.
We're building an innovative Services + Software product that allows us to differentiate in the marketplace and build deep customer trust while maintaining software-like margins. We've built an MVP that's already generating ~$500k ARR and secured funding to scale our impact.
We're a lean, product-focused team with solid technical foundations already in place. Now we're looking to accelerate our growth and deepen our technical capabilities.
About the Role
We're seeking a founding software engineer to join our team as one of the first technical hires. This is a unique opportunity to shape both our technology stack and engineering culture as we scale from MVP to market-leading platform. You'll report to our CPO and work directly with leadership to drive technical initiatives and product strategy.
As a founding engineer, you'll wear many hats, from hands-on development to technical leadership to product strategy. You'll be instrumental in evolving our engineering practices, mentoring future team members, and making critical architectural decisions that will define our technical foundation for years to come.
What You'll Do
- Build and enhance platform features using Python and TypeScript, with a focus on geospatial analytics and AI agent capabilities
- Lead technical initiatives from conception to deployment, making architectural decisions and driving implementation
- Work directly with the CPO and leadership team to design engineering solutions to real customer problems
- Evolve our engineering practices by building upon our existing CI/CD pipelines, code review processes, and deployment strategies on Google Cloud Platform
- Contribute to product decisions by bringing strong technical and user perspectives to feature planning and prioritization
- Scale our technical foundation as we grow from $500k ARR to our next stage of growth
- Mentor and guide future engineering hires as we expand the team
- Navigate ambiguity by making independent decisions when requirements are unclear or evolving
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, and business teams to deliver cohesive solutions
Technical Skills You'll Bring
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated senior-level capabilities
- Strong proficiency in Python and TypeScript with experience building production applications
- Deep experience with geospatial analytics, including H3 indexing, map data processing, and spatial queries
- Google Cloud Platform expertise with hands-on experience deploying and managing cloud infrastructure
- CI/CD pipeline experience and familiarity with modern DevOps practices and tooling
- Full-stack capabilities with experience across backend services, APIs, and frontend development
Our Values & Culture
We're looking for someone who naturally aligns with how we work:
Builder's Mindset: You have hands-on experience creating things from scratch and understand the complexities of building software. You speak the language of makers and can communicate technical tradeoffs effectively across the organization.
Product-First Thinking: You combine user empathy, market awareness, design intuition, and technical expertise. You naturally think about how engineering decisions impact real users and business outcomes.
Problem-Oriented: You instinctively dig into the underlying problems and user needs before jumping to solutions. You ask "what's really going on here?" and ensure we're solving the right challenges.
Direct Collaboration: You prefer working directly with teammates over formal processes. You're comfortable asking for what you need and helping others without bureaucratic overhead.
Process-Light: You're allergic to meetings and ceremonies that don't add clear value. You prefer lightweight coordination and focus on shipping great software.
Intellectual Honesty: You speak up when you have good ideas, regardless of hierarchy. You engage in candid technical debates and help create an environment where the best ideas win.
What We Offer
- Competitive cash compensation plus founding team equity with significant upside potential
- Direct impact on product and technical direction
- Comprehensive benefits package
- Professional development budget and conference attendance
- Flexible work environment - hybrid model with 3 days in our Cambridge, MA office and strong remote work policy for extended periods
- Cutting-edge technology stack and freedom to choose the right tools
